Ramsey Clark Once Again Redefines the Extreme Left

Ramsey Clark: Former U.S. Attorney General & Likely Certifiable Wingnut

Ramsey & Slobo sittin' in a tree...

I don't believe it.  Ramsey Clark is going to assist in the defense of Saddam Hussein during his trail in Baghdad.  Please tell me I'm dreaming.

I didn't pay much attention when Ramsey Clark was Attorney General for the Johnson administration.  after all, I was only seven years old when he got the job.  But for much of my life, that position earned him a great deal of respect in my book.

Over the years however, I kept noticing his name popping up in defense of some of the most notorious scumbags of our time.  The case that really made me question Clark's sanity was when came to the aid of PLO leaders being sued by the family of Leon Klinghoffer, the wheelchair bound tourist killed by terrorists during the hijacking of the Achille Lauro in 1985. It's not like there was any question about their guilt, so what was his concern?  It wasn't even a criminal trial.  I could at least understand an anti-death penalty stance, but this was a civil trial.  Only monetary damages could be awarded.  Was he worried that a judgment would have unfairly bankrupted the PLO?  At the time I remembered thinking that his position on the matter established the new all-time benchmark in left-wing positions.

But subsequently, it seemed like he's viewed that mark as his own personal Guinness record, and made it his goal to continually one-up himself.  After standing up for Slobodan Milosevic and defending a man that presided over ethnic clensing, I figured he'd finally outdone himself.  At this point, I don't care that his resume starts off with “U.S. Attorney General”.  He should get more credit -- and scrutiny -- because it also contains names like Milosevic, David Koresh, Leonard Peltier, Charles Taylor, and now Sadam Hussein.  Way to go Ramsey!  You've done it again.

As a way to say thanks, maybe we should all chip in and send him on a Mediterranean cruise.  Hey, who knows?
