2005 Missoula Raptors
RMFL Montana Division Champions
Head Coach Matt Softich
The month of January was half over when my buddy Matt first told me he was being considered to become the head coach of the Missoula Raptors, a brand new semi-pro football team being started to play in the Rocky Mountain Football League (RMFL). Matt had been away from coaching some time, and this was a perfect opportunity to get back in the swing of things.
In their inaugural season, the Missoula Raptors accomplished the unthinkable, finishing the season with a record of 6 wins and 2 losses, earning the RMFL Montana Division title. Hosting their first-ever playoff game on June 18, they defeated the Kamas Valley Muddogs, 28-6. Although their season ended the following week in a tough road game against a more experienced Boise Roughrider team, considering that the Raptors didn't even exist just s few short months before, their accomplishment is undeniable. Hats off to the Raptors, and their head coach, my friend, Matt Softich.
