A couple of weeks ago CNBC pulled the plug on Dennis Miller's show. Bummer.
I guess it's not really a surprise though, the show often sucked. But it was worth watching for the times when Dennis was allowed to be Dennis. It puzzles me why the producers insisted on continuously bringing in panels of right-wing extremists to confront Dennis' common-sense attitude. It was clear the show had a format problem. Wouldn't it make sense to try something different? The old Dennis Miller Live show on HBO ran for 9 years by featuring Dennis' commentary and pairing him with a single guest each show. Perhaps CNBC could have at least migrated more in that direction.
Dennis was at his best as anchoring Weekend Update on Saturday Night Live back in the day, and later for 9 years on his HBO show Dennis Miller Live. And although I seem to be in the minority on this one, I really liked Dennis on Monday Night Football. His quips were fodder for countless water cooler discussions each week.
I'm sure Dennis will be back on again somewhere soon. I just hope he finally gets the proper showcase next time.
In the mean time we'll just have to make due with these great Dennis Miller quotes.
