You might be from Anaconda, Montana if...

I was feeling a bit nostalgic today, so with all due respect to Jeff Foxworthy...

  • The smell of arsenic and/or sulfur reminds you of home.
  • You remember those hot summer days when the air was yellow and  your lungs burned.
  • You remember the Red Sands before it was a Super Fund site.
  • You know what a Nu Burger is.
  • You or one of your relatives wore a leisure suit to a wedding after 1980.
  • You consider dressing up to be wearing a pull-over sweater with your "good" jeans.
  • You either looked for, or hid Easter eggs in the snow at least once.
  • You lit 4th of July fireworks in the snow at least once.
  • You went trick-or-treating in the snow more than once.
  • You consider St. Patrick's Day a major holiday even though you aren't Irish.
  • You regularly greeted friends by smiling and flipping them off.
  • You remember when there were 56 bars in a 18 square block area.
  • You had an active tab in 4 or more bars.
  • You make fun of the "big" Christmas tree they put up in Times Square each year.
  • The biggest, best, and least expensive steak you've never had was at either... The Copper Club, The Reno Supper Club, Barlay's, Jim and Clara's, or The Brown Derby.

Most of these have been sent to me over the past several years

I know it's a typo, but I'm sure it is "Barclay's" formerly the K-Club. Everything else is absoutely correct! Are you any relation to Nancy Stavanja?

You old neighbor across the street. Here's a few:

You might be from Anaconda if you remember hooking cars in the winter.

You might be from Anaconda if you remember guys from Butte saying "Yous guys from Andaconda and us guys from Butte"

You might be from Anaconda if you remember shoveling the snow off the basketball courts or the alley to practice or play HORSE or a game to 20.

You might be from Anaconda if you remember the city marble tournament at the Commons run by Pat Connors of the City Rec Dept.

Here's one more:

You might be from Anaconda if you remember sledding down Birch Street or Walnut Street hills and the sander came to put sand down and all the kids would get out and sweep the sand off so they could do more sledding.
