Back in the early 90's I began to consciously avoid discussion of politics or religion with anyone but my closest family or friends. Quite simply those two topics are far too volatile, and many are way too passionate about their beliefs one way or the other. This decision has served me well over the years, and I'm trying to continue the same philosophy with this blog as well.
That said, I must say that I'm disturbed by this year's presidential race. So much so that I felt compelled to say something about it.
This race has simply gotten out-of-hand in terms of the severe tones taken by supporters of each candidate. For some reason it's being portrayed as a choice between good and evil. It's ridiculous. The accusations of lying are tossed about too often and too casually. With both sides claiming to tell the truth, how are we to be able to figure out what the truth really is?
I've found that FactCheck.org addresses just that issue. It's run by The Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania. Its mission is to “reduce the level of deception and confusion in U.S. politics“. I find it quite enlightening to see what things are being stretched and to what degree. It was an eye-opener for me.
Regardless of you political persuasion, FactCheck.org should be a site every responsible voter looks at before casting their vote on November 2.
