An Unbiased Art Review

Title: Unnamed
Artist: Meagan (Age 5)
Media: Watercolor marker on printer paper
Date: July 2004

This is one of the most compelling pieces I've seen in quite some time.  Clearly the artist's goal here was to engage the viewer, yet leave them to ponder the bigger, more obvious question, “What is that anyway?”.  The subtle choice of colors is unique and daring, conveying a sense of both serenity and unease.  The simple composition and generous use of white space forces viewers to focus on, and better appreciate the delicate elements that make up this bold form.  Even the artist's prominent signature actually becomes a part of the piece, giving us a sense of the artist's strength and quiet confidence.  Clearly this artist is wise beyond her years.  I look forward to seeing more from this fresh young talent.

Note: In the interest of full disclosure, it should be pointed out that Meagan, the artist responsible for this piece, is actually my youngest niece.  But rest assured -- this fact had no bearing on my ability to write a completely honest and unbiased review of this work.
