Golfing "The Links"

I went golfing yesterday with my friend Mike and his son Scott.  It was my first time playing The Links course near Post Falls.

It was a beautiful day.  Not too hot, with a slight cool breeze blowing from the West.  Scott's friend Bruce joined us to fill out the foursome.

This course was great.  It's a links style course in the spirit of the old courses in Scotland.  It felt similar to The Fairways course west of Spokane, but with one major difference... the greens were incredible!  Huge changes in elevation, multiple tiers, big slopes, and fast.  Not good for keeping scoring down, but great fun indeed.

We all had our share of good and bad times on the front nine, but none of that dampened our spirits.  Scott and I enjoy ribbing each other, Mike is always witty, and Bruce contributed his share as well.  Unfortunately Bruce had to leave us at the turn, so he missed out on the slow play that plagued the back nine.  Despite that, our remaining threesome actually picked up our game at that point.  By the time we ere finishing up, we were all starting to feel a sense of confidence stepping up to the ball.  (Scott even started hitting the ball both in the air, and in the general direction he was aiming!)  That certainly didn't hurt the fun quotient either.

Despite being billed as a course for “experienced“ golfers -- code for good -- golfers (which I'm not), I found it huge fun.  Unfortunately the fun didn't necessarily translate into low score.  Although I played my best round of the year, it only rang up as a 95 on the score card.  The par threes were my biggest downfall, playing them at a whopping 8-over.  Take away a lost ball a mere 10 or 15 feet off the 18th fairway, and I really played a very good round by my standards.

Once again it's clear -- I need to do this kinda stuff more often.  For lots of reasons...
